Collection: City Telephone Box
Our Telephone Box design celebrates one of London’s most enduring icons, which has graced the city streets since the 1930’s. Many years ago, the General Post Office also ran the country’s telephone system. The General Post Office asked three architects to submit designs for a standardised telephone box. They chose that of Sir Giles Gilberd Scott, who later went on to design Battersea Power Station and Bankside Power Station. Said to be inspired by a tomb created by Sir John Soane in the graveyard of St Pancras Old Church, the dome topped K2 design was the basis of the later K6 design that we all know and love. The K6 was so popular that around 60,000 were installed across the UK.
