Celebrate the coronation of King Charles III with our stylish pop art tea towel, featuring St Edmund's crown. This ancient crown will be briefly placed on the King's head by The Archbishop of Canterbury, whilst those present declare "God Save the King." Let us tell you a little more about this iconic crown.
St Edmund's crown is one of the worlds most iconic symbols of royalty. The first version of this crown was created in 1220 for the Coronation of Henry III. The original crown was a holy relic and stored at Westminster Abbey, but it was sold or melted during the English Civil War. After the war the current version was created for King Charles II and closely resembles the medieval version.
The late Elizabeth II used a stylised version of this crown to symbolise her royal power. It's fitting that we in turn use it to welcome her son to the throne.
